Create the Space to Have a Great Year

In December, I commented on the trend that people seemed to be already living in January. I invited you to come back to the present and take some time to celebrate and rest.

Well, it’s January now, so you have my permission to get into action again. And I’m going to help you do it, with a month’s worth of articles that will help you take your first steps and keep going.

To start us off today, I have an important reminder for you. This concept was expressed beautifully in a poem by Judy Brown, which I posted to the blog last month. Click here to read Fire.

My last gift to you for 2011 is also my first gift to you for 2012.

Before you jump into action…

Before you fill up your schedule…

Before you set your goals…

Before you make promises and declarations…

Before you grade yourself on your accomplishments and failures…

Stop.

Get some space between the logs of your fire. Get a strong personal foundation in place so that you can be at your best this year.

That may mean that you schedule your own Power Sabbath every week or every day, or that you put a team in place that allows everyone—including you—to work from their strengths this year.

Whatever it takes and whatever it means for you, block out that space now so that your fire can burn brightly all year long.
