One of the things that I am noticing in my coaching is that many leaders are confused about what their responsibility really is. Time and time again I see leaders taking on too much responsibility – almost robbing others of the opportunity to participate. And then there is the flip-side of this, when responsibility is shirked.
What makes this question powerful is that it helps the person get clear about what really is their responsibility. Or, at least begin the discernment process.
In many cases, we already know what our responsibility is and what is NOT. We just need to be asked the question.
The real power of a question is not in the answer, but in the asking!
