How many times have you been in a meeting and someone said, “What are we going to do about it?” And the typical response from the group members is to jump right in and brainstorm things to do and ways to solve the problem or situation.
The next time you find yourself in this situation, I want you to CHANGE THE QUESTION.
Intentionally change the question from: What are we going to do about this? to How are we going to think about this?
Mark Bonchek, author of Shift Thinking, says that “In this time of rapid change, it’s not enough to do new things. We need to think in new ways”
By thinking about our thinking we are opening ourselves to an entirely new way of being and responding.
Bonchek suggests that the first step is to understand the kind of thinker you are. Here’s a short video clip that will help you get started identifying various thinking styles: How Your Team Thinks
Enjoy thinking this week!
All the best,
