I love Albert Einstein’s definition of INSANITY. He says that insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Using this definition as a standard, most of us are insane — myself included!
I’m fairly good at stepping back and changing things when dealing with a project. The insanity is most difficult when dealing with recurring problem people. I routinely get caught up in the same behaviors and responses that haven’t worked in the past or present.
Mike Lipson suggests that we try Improv.
In other words, in the moment intentionally change things up. Pause for a brief second and then respond in a unique and different manner. During the brief pause, mentally shift from a Train on the Tracks pushing forward no-matter-what to a 4 x 4 Jeep on an Adventure. If we want different results, we need to start by changing our responses!
All the best,
